I’m not a big believer in general san martin. I believe it to be a very useful concept, but I understand why it has become such a divisive topic. There is a lot more to the word “san” than just being clean. The term “san” is a noun and a verb. There is both a noun and a verb san. The word refers to the act of being clean.
The problem is that when we say san, it’s a very vague term. It’s not a process, it’s not a state, it’s not an action, it’s not an event, it’s not the kind of thing we want to attribute to a person.
Like most people, I have a hard time describing what I see when I look at a person with san. I can see they’re clean, but that’s not what I mean when I say “san.” In fact, the term san is actually really more descriptive than it is a description of a person. A san is just someone who is clean. I see a person who is san, and I think of them as clean.

When a person is san they are clean. The term san is like a tagline for a movie. It implies that the film is somehow a clean, safe movie. We could call the san tag line “Clean and Clear”.
